Top 5 Decorating Ideas for Small Budgets

It’s not uncommon to feel like you have no budget for all the decorating ideas you have. It can be frustrating when you just want to give your living room or bedroom a new look but you just don’t have the funds to do so.

But what kind of decorating can you do for free or for very little? I’ve had my thinking cap on and I’ve been doing my research to find my top 5 decorating ideas for small budgets.

1. Add height with a mirror

I found this tip on Emily A Clark’s blog, and I was intrigued. How could a mirror add height?

She suggests positioning a small mirror on top of artwork. To my surprise, it does work and it looks great too.

2. Mix up your chairs

The days of getting everything to match are long gone. In your dining room, having different chairs can create a more casual feel and make a more interesting breakfast, lunch or dinner time.

Make sure your dining room suits this kind of style though – in a country cottage style dining room, odd chairs could spoil the atmosphere of the room.

3. Make a statement with a tablecloth

Brightly coloured tablecloths can add interest to your dining room. This dining room may have looked odd with the yellow shelving and blue light shades, but the tablecloth finishes off the look and complements the other furnishings.

4. Add texture with cushions

The cushions in this bedroom add interest to an otherwise plain room. The colours compliment the headboard, while making the room seem more 3D.

You can pick up cushions cheaply in many home stores, and if you’re feeling crafty you could buy some cheap material and sew your own cushion covers.

5. Get the stained glass effect

One of the most simple and cheap decorating ideas is to keep all your interesting glass coloured bottles and line them up on a windowsill. You’ll create an instant stained glass effect, and you could add candlesticks in them for the evening if you desire.

Luckily, these decorating ideas show that you don’t have to have a huge budget to update your home. With a bit of creativity and a ‘try-everything’ mindset, you can transform the look of a room without spending much at all.
